What does it mean to be deeply connected to your community while defining yourself as an individual? Belvedere Middle School students provide inspiring answers.

Founded in 1924, the school is home to a multilingual, multi-faceted, and multi-generational community. Many students follow in the footsteps of siblings, cousins, parents, and even grandparents.

During the pandemic, we designed a workshop to engage students both online and via postal mail. With the support of teachers and administrators, we exchanged stories and ideas, guiding students to participate as co-creators in developing a graphic language. Our co-authored visuals are now inscribed in grounds and on walls, as murals, signage, and rhythms.
