This dual-immersion program allows students to develop a nuanced and interconnected understanding of Chinese and English. To celebrate this, we created vibrant murals that animate and unify the campus. With a kit of multilingual characters and graphic illustrations, we chose to tell the cyclical story of a year, season by season. Prior to composing the story, we spoke with teammates holding diverse perspectives on speaking both languages with varying levels of fluency. They shared insights on the role of multilingualism for the next generation reminding us that different languages can carry both distinct and shared worldviews. Inspired by these conversations, we crafted a bilingual story in which English and Chinese phrases complement—rather than translate—one another, highlighting the layered meanings each language carries.
