John Adams Middle School
This campus modernization integrates graphic design and architecture from the entrance on, resulting in a bold, cohesive identity carried across signage, murals, and materials.
The school’s name, room numbers, and even murals share a block-built style that allows for scaling to the point of abstraction. Wayfinding elements become supergraphics, and the exterior large compositions.
As we were developing a mural dedicated to John Adams, the Massachusetts Historical Society led us towards correspondence between the President and his wife Abigail, in which they discussed the importance of seeking knowledge. One letter in particular inspired us to represent Abigail as well, and illustrate their dialogue.
At the campus entry, a solar panel canopy signals the District’s forward-thinking vision. Sunlight filters through, casting shadows of both the solar pattern and signage onto the ground—visibly merging the school’s identity, sustainability goals, and architectural expression.
