As LACMA reimagined its campus during the construction of the Zumthor building, we created a graphic system for two transitional spaces: the Education Studio and the construction fencing. We used a viewfinder as both tool and metaphor, cropping moments from the site to create illustrations that celebrate the practice of seeing. 

We extended this approach to LACMA’s custom typeface, reconfiguring letterform building blocks into new, yet familiar, ornaments and patterns. Our vignettes and illustrations tie the old, new, and yet-to-be-seen, so transitional spaces can invite us to engage with the campus’ evolution.
